2012- A year of firsts

Looking back now on 2012 I think I will remember it as the year of firsts. I did SO much this year that I had dreamt of doing for so long. So many things this year that I had made a goal of doing and I accomplished them. As much as I loved this year, It was definitely a hard one too.

2012 was a learning year. A growing year. A faith building year. A risk taking year. A prayerful year. A growing up year.

  • First baby niece born
  • First time going to a different continent
  • First time in Europe
  • First time parasailing
  • first time away from all of my family for more than a few weeks.
  • First kiss
  • First time I truly fell in love
  • First real heartbreak
  • First time I sincerely and strongly relied on Heavenly Father to know what was best for me when I didn't want to go the way he wanted me to go.
  • First time being in my twenties
  • First wedding of a close friend. {And my best best friend at that}
  • First time I hated my major
  • First time in college living without Betsy
  • First time watching an entire season of a TV show in less than 24 hours.
  • First all-nighter
  • First time watching a baby for 2 consecutive nights.
  • First time riding a donkey
  • First photograph on an advertisement.
  • First time handing out a Book of Mormon.
  • First time being able to vote in a presidential election
  • First time checking off more than 3 bucket list items in one year (11 new bucket list items checked off this year!)
  • first D on a test
  • First F on a test
  • First time in years that I made my bank account go down to under 10 dollars.
  • First time enjoying an art history class.
  • First time (since I started writing everyday in my journal in 9th grade) writing only 1 sentence for a day in my journal. I did this 3 times. :/
I hope 2013 will be even better!

Christmas 2012

Here are a few things I got for Christmas. It was a great day. We even slept in this year. It's weird how things change on Christmas as you get older. When I was little, we woke our parents up at 5 am! Now we sleep in late. When I was little, getting clothes was the worst. Now, that's the best!

Gemma as an old man.

here's a few things I got.

YES! so fun.

costco socks are thee best!

Allison made me a scarf and this super awesome dino pen!!

Ash knows a lady who  makes personalized purses. She had her make me a  camera photography purse and matching wallet!

how awesome is that!!?

and some nice boots. Which I'm wearing to shoot the wedding I'm doing this Friday.

I got my heels! YES!

This pillow is made from leftover material used from my grandma's wedding dress! She made all the granddaughters a pillow from it.

Grandma lost one of her earrings she wore on her wedding day, this is the other one. She found it and knew I loved pearls. Such an awesome gift!
Huckleberry! mmmm!

grandma had a friend make a lace scarf for me and she bought this pearl necklace at an estate sale! She's the best!
I am so glad my grandparents are here from Washington.

And because of this sweet baby, It was the best Christmas.

I just adore her. I don't know how some people don't like babies.
Especially this baby girl.

And most importantly, to this baby. I'm so grateful for him.

If that would have been real.

If my dream last night would have been real, A cute man would have brought me a basket of zucchini with a giant silver bow. {it was bizarre}

If my GRE practice test I took today would have been the real thing, I would totally be able to get into the program I want to go to next year.

Too bad they're both not real. I like zucchini. And I don't want to study any more for this test. But I'm going to. I'm going to nail that test in January. I'm not even worried.

And that last sentence wasn't real either.

I'm totally worried.

This is real though- TEN days till christmas.

that's TOO real.

Anddd.... cue the Hallelujah Chorus!

Here it is. A fun version.

this video led to apx. 20 minutes of flash mob videos. But that doesn't even matter because I'm DONE with my 2nd to last finals week in my undergraduate career!!!!!!

Good riddance to the hardest semester I've had so far!!

And the best part is that I'm done with art history FOR EVER! :D 5 art history classes is far more than I cared for.

these are the classes I need now to graduate-
Color photo 2
Computers and art
and Senior BFA exhibition.

The end is in site!

Awkward story real quick.

So I was studying before the test and my professor came in the room and I didn't notice and he was looking over my shoulder watching me study and this is what he said, "that's not the right picture for the name."

great. I mismatched a few slides and what the names of the art work. Anyways, that was fun....

"Awkwardness makes you stronger." -Allison

Also, my professor decided to lecture for 30 mins AFTER the final!!!! What? Who does that!?

Suicide Printing is fun

Okay, so normally I don't post a bajillion pictures for a single post on here these days, but I'm kinda a really big fan of my suicide print!

My favorite process of printmaking was woodcut and the suicide print was terrifying to me, but I adore it now!

First- you carve out all the places that you want to be white at the end-
done carving out my whites.

half way done. I was giving my hand a rest at this point

this is how you ink.

then you ink your first layer. I chose yellow.
you have to print everything you want all at the same time.

close up of the yellow.

then you carve away everything you want to stay yellow
and ink your second color. Red.

then you print those. half way done

look how cool!

then you carve out everything you want to stay red and ink with a new color..
this is when everything was carved out but the line strung with flags that I wanted black.
and here are some of the prints. I love how unique and individual they all are!

Anyways, sorry if that was the world's boring est post.

Here are my end of semester stats-
